So the phoenix is a leader in a prosperous era, and Du Fu regards the phoenix as his life totem.

所以凤凰是盛世的领袖，甫把凤凰当作自己的人生图腾。

Tu Fu was like Milton, a devout philosopher and a good old man, writing in a profusion of apt, learned, and archaic metaphors.

甫则酷似弥尔顿，既是虔敬的哲人，又是仁厚的长者，学富而文工，以古朴之笔墨，写丰厚之情思。

So you see, Du Fu's youth was not only not a failure, but also quite brilliant.

所以你看，甫的青春不仅不是失败的，而且还相当辉煌。

As mentioned earlier, Du Fu began to create poetry at the age of 7, and his first poem was about the phoenix.

前面说过， 甫 7 岁就开始创作诗歌，他的第首诗就是关于凤凰的。

However, from the perspective of that time, Du Fu was not so ambitious for fame and wealth, for official positions.

不过， 从那时代的角度来看，甫并没有那么野心勃勃地追求名利，追求官职。

So with such a background and such an experience, the young Du Fu should be quite confident when looking at himself, even a bit arrogant.

所以有这样的背景， 这样的经历，年轻的甫在看着自己的时候， 应该还是挺自信的，甚至有些傲慢。

The Tang was also a golden age for Chinese poetry with notables like Du Fu and Li Bo plying their craft, encouraged by the official government.
