The machines are single molecule motors that can spin at about 3 million rotations a second when a blue light shines on them.

Now, we’ve also talked about the frequency of uniform circular motion: It’s the number of revolutions the marble makes around the ring every second, and it’s equal to 1, divided by the period.

Within each hundredth of a second, the sensors see 12 pulses of light and using the generated  pulse train, the processor calculates that the wheel is spinning at 25 rotations a second and  then sends this information to the computer.
